Obituary for Charles Edward Smith
Our beloved father, Charles Edward Smith, entered into a peaceful rest September 28, 2019 after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded by caregivers and loved ones during the last days of his life. Charles was born June 27, 1955 in Prattville, Alabama to the late Charles Smith and Betty Jo Smith. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Army where he served for several years. He was stationed in Germany then later he was stationed at Fort Polk where he met his wife, Dianetta Smith. They were married and Charles became an instant father to Gregory Smith whom he loved as his own. Later, two daughters joined the family, LaShunda and Crystal Smith. Charles loved his children so very much and cherished every moment as a father. After he served his time in the Army, he was employed as a G-11 at Fort Polk. He was a faithful member of the Pride of Leesville Lodge #41 here in Leesville where he served as the Worshipful Master. He performed his office duties with pride. He joined Mount Olive B.C. and later joined the Latter Day Saints and was in the Priesthood until his death. He leaves to cherish his memories his former wife of 27 years and best friend forever, Dianetta Smith Maxie of New Llano, LA; one son, Gregory A.
